At-home pedicure: the complete guide to soft feet without a salon
You don't need an appointment at a salon to take care of your feet. With a little bit of method and a few simple tools, you can replicate the essentials of a pedicure at home, at your own pace.

1. The foot soak, the step we skip too often
Ten to fifteen minutes in lukewarm water is enough to soften the skin and prepare the ground for what follows. Some people add a little mild soap or salt, but plain water already works very well.
2. Exfoliation, the key to smooth skin
This is often the most overlooked step, yet it changes everything. The idea is to remove accumulated dead cells without damaging the skin underneath: use gentle movements and never focus on the same area for too long. A pumice stone works but requires time and energy. An electric tool like an electric foot file allows you to achieve a similar result in a few minutes, without having to scrub hard. For particularly hard or thick areas, it is better to go gradually over several sessions rather than trying to remove everything at once: we detail this approach in our article on calluses.
3. Nails and cuticles
Cut your nails straight across rather than rounded at the corners to limit the risk of ingrown nails. Gently push back your cuticles with a wooden stick rather than cutting them, unless they are really damaged.

4. Hydration, the step that truly makes a difference
Once the skin is exfoliated, it absorbs a rich cream much better. For an enhanced effect, some people put on cotton socks right after application and wear them throughout the night.
How often to repeat this ritual
A complete routine once a week is enough for most people, complemented by lighter daily hydration. If your heels tend to dry out quickly between sessions, there is likely an explanation: we explain it in this article on dry heels.
